2018 NFl Draft Winner and Losers

2018 NFL Draft Winners and Losers
Nick Gaschler

Every year, we have teams that nail the draft and teams that well...fail the draft as well as players
and prospects. Here is my explanation as to who I think won and who I think lost in the Draft after 3
days of absolute craziness. Enjoy and get ready for 2019!

Winners

New York Giants

Getting Saquon Barkley, Will Hernandez, and Lorenzo Carter in the first two days was ingenious
by Dave Gettleman. This is exactly what the Giants needed to become an elite football club now
they need to plan for the future with a new quarter...wait they got Kyle Lauletta to develop so why
would they get a new QB in the future? See, an easy winner this year.

All 5 1st Round QB’s
I think all five of the Quarterbacks selected in the first round went to a good spot for them. Baker
is the only guy who can change Cleveland. Darnold seems to fit in New York really well, Josh Allen
and his arm can develop and become a big-time threat in the AFC East, Rosen goes to Arizona
where he can learn quickly and work with his carbon copy in Sam Bradford, and finally Lamar will
have a chance to develop for a year or so and get thrown into the fire, ready to play.

Denver Broncos

A really, really good set of picks made by John Elway over the weekend. Chubb will make an impact,
Sutton will make an impact, Royce Freeman will make an impact, Isaac Yiadom should be a really
good sub, Josey Jewell will be ok, but a great sub, DaeSean Hamilton is an outside receiver we need
as a sub or if we get rid of DT, Fumagalli can compete for that starting TE spot, and Sam Jones can
develop into the RG we need. Elway nailed this draft looking back and made a lot of impact helps.

All 2nd-3rd Round Players Selected 1st Round

To Kolton Miller, Frank Ragnow, Rashaad Penny, and Terrell Edmunds congratulations on your loaded
pockets because the team that selected you guys were all passing blunts on Draft Night. Nevertheless,
these guys will be making more money than expected so congratulations.

Houston Texans

For having their first pick in the 3rd Round, the Texans did very well getting Justin Reid, Martinas
Rankin, Jordan Atkins, Keke Coutee, and Duke Ejiofor, five players that can really make an impact
for the franchise working towards building around Deshaun Watson. The Texans look loaded and
I’d be nervous.

Shaquem Griffin-LB-Seattle Seahawks

It’s a cool story and stuff, but seeing Shaquem playing with his brother Shaquill might make a
huge difference this year as they can be two forces on what might be a dismal Seahawks team this year.

Connor Williams-OT-Dallas Cowboys

Sure Connor may have fallen a lot, but this was the right spot for him. He can develop well with
a stacked Dallas offensive line and I’m truly happy for the kid. He’s gonna be a steal for Cowboys
and he’s the only Day Two pick I graded as an A+.

Losers

Joe Flacco-QB-Baltimore Ravens

Like Alex Smith and Tom Savage last year, this was an ice cold way to say, “bye Felicia” to the
Ravens only “elite” quarterback. But jokes aside, trading up for Lamar like that with the first pick
and having Steve Smith, a former teammate say publicly, that he’s gonna be around 5 more minutes
like the crew because he’s out soon wasn’t fun. Baltimore fans better be ready to say goodbye to
Joe and say hello to Lamar ‘Action’ Jackson.

Oakland Raiders

Dear lord, did anyone in this draft crap the bed more than the Raiders? I think Jon Gruden needs
a refresher on how to be a functioning NFL staff member. Kolton Miller is a 2nd round player, PJ
Hall is a late rounder, Brandon Parker is probably a 4th or 5th rounder, Arden Key was the first
pick that had decent value, but I believe he’s gonna bust, and finally, Mo Hurst was their first pick
that really made sense in terms of playing level. Oakland has an opportunity to snag a playoff spot,
but this got them no closer to it.

Derrius Guice and Maurice Hurst Jr.

Yikes these two player were both really good players in this draft, but fell due to medical and
immaturity issues. I like both of these players and I’m glad both of these guys got selected,
but this was interesting watching them draft. Honorable mention to my #2 safety DeShon
Elliott getting selected in the 6th round(yikes.)

Cleveland Browns

I mean listen, a lot of people are quick to diss the Browns after this draft, but I’m on the fence.
Let’s look at the 1st round picks here. Baker Mayfield was nothing near going first until about
September or October and we didn’t even think he was going one until Thursday morning.
Denzel Ward came out of left field and I couldn’t process the pick until Quenton Nelson came
off the board at 6. They are certainly good players, but if the Browns get this one wrong and
Darnold/any other QB and Bradley Chubb go on to be Pro Bowlers, John Dorsey is going to
be under a lot of fire for these picks.

2018 NFL Draft WR Class

Well I didn’t expect this to happen. I knew since last June, that this class was either going to have
it’s top guy go in the top 10 or the bottom of the first and the latter is exactly what we saw. But
seeing guys like Simmie Cobbs and Allen Lazard go undrafted really pissed me off. These are
good receivers, but was this class of WR’s really that bad? We’ll see but it was crazy.

Josh Rosen-QB-Arizona Cardinals

I knew this since February. Josh Rosen’s character will be the death of him and seeing him and
his various facial expressions in the green room was surprising. He was acting like a prick because
he didn’t go in the top five. And on top of that he had the balls to say “there were 9 mistakes made
ahead of him” I don’t trust this kid and I believe he has higher bust potential than Baker or Josh
Allen. Disgraceful behavior and I was really disappointed. Make that 10 mistakes.
